One good deed can make someone’s day. Imagine the impact 100,000 good turns could have. That’s the premise Scouts Canada members are acting on as part of a national movement to do good turns across Canada during Good Turn Week, April 14 to 22.
Scouts in Powell River are challenging community members to also do a good turn for a friend, family member, neighbour or fellow resident.
Doing a good turn is a practice rooted in the values of all Scouting youth who are taught to always help others. During the week, Scouts will pass along a Good Turn Week bracelet to the people for whom they do a good turn and encourage them to pay it forward, creating a cycle of goodwill that will spread throughout communities across Canada.
“Good Turn Week helps inspire every Scout to do something great and calls upon Canadians outside the Scouting Movement to also deliver a simple act of kindness on behalf of someone else,” said Dylan Reinhart, National Youth Commissioner for Scouts Canada. “It’s really not difficult to do and our goal is simple: to foster a strong sense of community and friendship in Canada through consideration for and assistance of others.”
Those who don’t receive a bracelet can still participate in Good Turn Week. Canadians are encouraged to share their good turn on the Good Turn Week website or by texting “Good Turn” and their good deed to 51051.
