Stolen reindeer ruins holiday spirit

Homeowners asking for its return

A Powell River couple’s Christmas cheer has been ruined this season after someone stole one of their ornamental reindeer that had been part of elaborate Christmas decorations in their front yard.

Lynn McCann said she woke up on Friday, December 30, to find the eight reindeer that adorned her lawn on Manson Avenue had been moved across the street. At first she thought it was just a practical joke, even a funny one, as she saw her reindeer staring back at her from across the road. But when she went to recover them she realized one was missing.

A string of lights and a few more light bulbs from other strings were also missing, but her main concern is the reindeer. Her husband made the reindeer out of wood many years ago and his current health condition means he will not be able to make a replacement. The McCanns hadn’t put out the reindeer for a few years but decided to reintroduce them this year.

McCann said this act has ruined her Christmas spirit. Normally she would leave her decorations up, which she hears many wonderful comments about, until after New Year’s. This year she said she would remove them before.

McCann is asking whoever took the reindeer to return it and no questions will be asked. It could even be returned at night so that the person with it need not even talk to the homeowners.
