The annual report will be presented at the regular council meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, June 21 at city hall. During this meeting, council will consider submissions and questions from the public about it.

Copies of the annual report are available for public inspection at city hall, 6910 Duncan Street, during regular office hours. It is also available on the city’s website.

Last year saw the culmination of $34 million in capital projects, which included an expanded waterfront, drinking water upgrades and an athletic track.

According to the audited financial statements, prepared by BDO Canada LLP, the city’s revenues in 2011 totalled about $41.5 million, while expenses came in at almost $27 million. The city collected about $13.8 million in taxes in 2011 and provided $298,429 in permissive tax exemptions.

Long-term debt at the end of 2011 was about $13.8 million, an increase of close to $9 million compared to 2010 when it was about $4.8 million.

In 2012, the city is undertaking a comprehensive corporate plan, which will describe governance and corporate administrative structure. It will explain the role of each department, the key services and projects each department delivers and the vision, mission, values and strategic priorities of council.

Considerations in corporate planning include financial and economic sustainability, community and environmental well-being, asset management and efficient service delivery.
