Arts funding deadline looms

Money available for youth engagement programs

BC’s lead agency for arts funding has money available for organizations which take innovative and inspiring approaches to engaging the province’s youth, but the deadline for applications is looming.

BC Arts Council is accepting grant applications for new projects as well as expanded existing programs which connect youth to professional artists, provide experience and offer opportunities for participation in the creative process, or are outreach and engagement projects designed for youth.

The council’s Youth Engagement Program builds on existing expertise in the creative sector by supporting programs delivered by organizations which demonstrate success in promoting artistic achievement, community engagement and organizational capacity.

According to a media release from the ministry of community, sport and cultural development, the province has invested $60 million in BC artists, arts organizations and cultural institutions in 2014/2015, including $24 million to BC Arts Council.

All council grants are awarded through a peer assessment process which relies on the knowledge and expertise of the province’s talented arts and culture community, said the ministry’s media release.

The application deadline for this program is Thursday, January 15. For more information about the grants, readers can visit the council’s website.
