Due to crew availability on Salish Orca, BC Ferries has announced a potential risk of sailing cancellations for the Powell River/Comox route on Monday, August 8.
"While our crewing teams are working hard to source replacements, the following sailings are at risk if they are unable to do so," stated BC Ferries at 9:05 pm on Sunday, August 7.
9:55 am departing Little River (Comox)
11:50 am departing Westview (Powell River)
3:25 pm departing Little River (Comox)
5:15 pm departing Westview (Powell River)
"We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations," stated BC Ferries. "Should any sailings be impacted, we will notify customers via service notice as soon as the information is confirmed.
"The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew. If circumstances change and replacement crew become available, we would notify customers immediately."
Other routes were also affected on August 7 due to staff shortages, including two sailings between Horsheshoe Bay and Nanaimo, and multiple sailings between Salt Spring Island and Crofton.
