BC Ferries is cautioning travellers without reservations to prepare for sailing waits heading into one of the busiest travel weekends for the Langdale – Horseshoe Bay route.

The most popular travel times are expected to be Thursday and Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, according to a BC Ferries release. Reservations are recommended, as is avoiding sailings at peak times.

Those without reservations are urged to arrive early and to prepare for sailing waits if they’re aiming to travel during peak times. Walk-on passengers should plan to arrive at the terminal 45 minutes prior sailings.

Parking will also be busy and terminal parking lots could fill up quickly. BC Ferries recommends opting for ride-share or public transportation or arranging to be dropped off at terminals.

Travellers will have one more weekend of the current ferry schedule before seasonal changes come into effect. Those service changes will mean fewer sailings but a simpler schedule, starting Sept. 3.

The first ferry departing from Langdale will be 6:20 a.m. and the first from Horseshoe bay will be 7:30 a.m.  The last ferry leaving Langdale will be 10:15 p.m. and the last ferry out of Horseshoe bay is 11:20 p.m.

The main change on the Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route will be the end of the late night sailings Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The new schedules run until Oct. 14.

Sunshine Coast’s public transit schedule will also change to reflect the new ferry times, including Route 1 Langdale Ferry/Sechelt and route 90 Langdale Ferry/Sechelt Express. Minor schedule adjustments are expected for local routes 2 West Sechelt, 3 Sechelt Arena and 4 Halfmoon Bay.

The updated BC Transit schedule can be accessed at: bctransit.com/sunshine-coast.
