July sky
Less rain, more sun and slightly higher temperatures than average were observed this past July at Powell River Weather Station, according to weather observer John Ede.
“A little bit higher than normal but not much,” he said. “The average temperature was supposed to be around 17 and we got 17.4.”
The daily maximum mean in Powell River for the month of July is typically 22.1° Celsius and the minimum is typically 11.9°. Last month, a daily maximum mean of 22.5° and a minimum of 12.4° were observed, not far from that average.
While the highest recorded temperature, 26.9°, “wasn’t very high,” said Ede, the lowest was a bit of an anomaly by July standards. “We don’t normally go into the single digits but actually, the lowest temperature for the month was 7.3 right at the beginning,” he said.
As for the month’s rain, the region experienced less than usual. “We got 10 days of rain but it wasn’t much,” said Ede. “Just the occasional shower. The rainfall average is 40.2 [millimetres] and we only got 33 millimetres.”
That decrease in rain made room for a little extra sun; over 23 additional hours of it to be exact. “The average is 280 [hours] and we got 303.1, so it was above,” he said.
Bright skies and hot days are sticking around for August Long Weekend and beyond, sure to put next month’s statistics well on their way to a sunny outcome.
