Fishing ban
A temporary fishing ban has been announced for much of the South Coast.
Streams, rivers and inlets from Toba Inlet (which is exempted from the ban) south to the US Border are closed to angling from Wednesday, July 22, to Wednesday, September 30.
A press release issued by the ministry of forests, lands and natural resource operations Monday, July 20, stated: “The closure has been put in place to protect fish stocks at a time when they are vulnerable due to low flows and high water temperatures.”
On the Sunshine Coast the ban covers Wildlife Management Areas 2-12, 2-5 and 2-16, including the Powell River mainland region, Malaspina Strait and Desolation Sound, Texada Island and the Sechelt Peninsula.
Lakes and reservoirs are excluded from the ban.
The ban comes after level four drought conditions were announced for the South Coast and lower Fraser Valley regions.
