Kings and Clippers tie

After four games in BC Hockey League’s Island Division best-of-seven series Powell River Kings and Nanaimo Clippers are all even at two.

Kings duplicated Monday night’s win by the same 2-1 score on Tuesday to guarantee a sixth game in the friendly confines of Hap Parker Arena.

Kurt Keats scored the opener at just 0:44 seconds of the first period and then, after Nanaimo tied it 1-1 at 18:17, he got the eventual winner to start the second.

While his first goal was a dipsy-doodle right in front of the Nanaimo goalie the winner was a screaming wrist shot from 30 feet that found the top of the net.

From there the Kings, behind the strong goaltending of Brett Magnus who stopped 34 shots, held off the surging Clippers who had two goals waived off on one power play.

Referees cited Clippers for coincidental contact with Magnus which delighted Kings’ fans and drew the ire of the Clippers’ bench and coach Mike Vandekamp.

Game six takes place at 7:15 pm Friday, March 20, at Hap Parker Arena.
