Car accident north of Powell River injures four

SERIOUS CRASH: Powell River RCMP responded to a single vehicle accident early on June 27, which sent the vehicle’s four occupants to hospital.

Powell River RCMP responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle accident that caused injuries to the four occupants of the vehicle, including two serious injuries.

According to a media release from Powell River RCMP constable Paula Perry, on June 27, at approximately 4:04 am, police were called to assist BC Ambulance at the 3600 block of Highway 101, just north of Atrevida Road, for a single motor vehicle accident involving multiple occupants.

“Upon arrival, police identified the occupants of the vehicle, two youth and two young adults from Powell River,” the release stated. “Two of the occupants in the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle, receiving life threatening injuries. All four occupants were transported to Powell River General Hospital.

“Two individuals were airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with critical injuries and remain in critical condition. The other two occupants were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from Powell River General Hospital.”

Perry stated that speed, drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors involved in the accident. She added that an operation of a conveyance while impaired causing bodily harm investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the police forensic identification section and collision analyst reconstruction services.

The release stated the four occupants of the vehicle were celebrating 2021 graduation.

“Police are reminding anyone celebrating graduation festivities to please ensure they plan accordingly for a safe ride home,” stated Perry.
