A single vehicle accident near Brooks Secondary School on Saturday, August 31, shut down Marine Avenue in Townsite.

Powell River Fire Rescue deputy chief Rocky Swanson said the emergency call was received at 4:48 pm when the vehicle, moving southbound on Marine Avenue, right below the lower Brooks field, left the road, hit a hydro pole and flipped onto its roof.

Swanson said the single occupant was removed from the vehicle by a witness and was treated by emergency health services paramedics at the scene.

BC Hydro crews were on the scene to shore up the pole and made repairs.

Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover in the 5400 block of Marine Avenue. The driver, a 31-year-old male, did not sustain serious injuries as a result of the collision, according to Powell River RCMP.

Through the course of the investigation, police determined the driver was displaying signs of impairment by drugs. A drug recognition exam was completed for the driver. The matter is still under investigation at this time.
