Mayor David Formosa announced the City of Powell River’s portfolio and community liaison appointments at the inaugural council meeting on Tuesday, December 2.
Formosa established a finance standing committee and appointed all of council to the committee and Councillor Russell Brewer as chair. The finance committee’s mandate is to provide advice and make recommendations to council with respect to all financial matters of the city requiring council approval. The finance committee will give consideration to existing council policies and relevant municipal policies and plans. The committee is not a decision-making body and is not responsible for the implementation or management of any municipal functions or services. With the establishment of the finance committee, the city’s budget committee was dissolved.
With the city’s regional district representation, Brewer was appointed to the regional board with four votes and Councillor CaroleAnn Leishman was appointed with three votes. Alternates are Councillor Maggie Hathaway with four votes and Councillor Jim Palm with three votes.
