Burn and fire safety awareness
City of Powell River councillor Debbie Dee, acting as mayor during the council meeting, Thursday, January 16, proclaimed the week of Sunday, February 2, through Saturday, February 8, burn awareness week for the city.
Dee said the goal of the week is to prevent needless injury and to educate children by bringing awareness of potentially harmful situations to young people in the community. BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund sponsors the program and maintains an interactive website with contests and safety tip information targeted to students from preschool to grade seven.
