Tla'amin Nation announced two additional lab-confirmed COVID-19 results on April 8, after one was reported on April 6.

There are now three lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tla’amin Nation, according to a message from the executive council and health director.

The message, dated April 8, indicates more than 80 per cent of Tla’amin members living in the qathet region have been vaccinated. It also indicated members must remain hypervigilant and follow provincial health orders to ensure families, loved ones and neighbouring communities remain safe.

“COVID-19 needs people to move, so stay within your safe bubble of a maximum of six; please strictly follow all safety precautions to keep us all safe,” stated hegus John Hackett. “Tla’amin raises our hands for the continued support received within the Powell River region for recognizing and appreciating our transparency. We are all at risk, whether you live in Tla’amin, the City of Powell River or qathet Regional District. COVID-19 does not discriminate, regardless of where you reside.”

The message states that everyone has to be diligent and to stay at home. It further states that this is a small sacrifice to minimize health risks for elders, the most vulnerable with serious health conditions and families.

“Paddling together as one heart, one mind, one nation, we can prevent a serious COVID-19 outbreak within our communities, and get through this third wave,” the message stated.

Tla’amin Health remains available to provide support services in an essential services capacity generally, with additional focus on those who have been directed to isolate, according to the message.

According to an April 6 update from Tla’amin, the nation is not in lockdown.

“That means that we are all able to go to town to purchase groceries and other essential supplies – unless you have been otherwise directed by public health to self-isolate,” the message stated.

Businesses in the nation can operate, such as the Tla’amin Convenience Store, according to the message.

“All protocols are being followed and it is business as usual in situations where it is safe to do so,” the message stated. “While the administration office is closed for now, staff members are working from home and available by email or voicemail message.”

Tla’amin has not issued shelter-in-place, where members are directed to stay home until further notice. However, all are advised to stay home as much as possible.

Tla’amin has not declared a state of emergency.
