1. December 8

4700 block Joyce Avenue

At approximately 1 pm an older camper van struck the side of a community building causing approximately $1,000 worth of damage. Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor. It appears the driver simply misjudged how close to the building he was.

2. December 9

Shelter Point Road near Bell Road

At approximately 2:30 pm a black Nissan Pathfinder struck a tree on Texada Island. The driver demonstrated signs of impairment and subsequently provided two breath samples, both of which resulted in fail readings. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days.

3. December 9

7100 block Alberni Street

At approximately 3 pm staff at a local store observed a female as she placed $125 of beauty products into her purse then left the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items. The female was arrested and Powell River RCMP has recommended the Criminal Code charge of theft under $5,000.

4. December 9

4600 block Joyce Avenue

At approximately 11 pm Powell River RCMP were alerted to a possible impaired driver driving a green Mercury Sable. The vehicle was located in a drive thru. The driver was found to have more than double the allowable limit of alcohol in his system. The vehicle was impounded and the driver is facing the Criminal Code charge of impaired driving.
