At approximately 1 am the driver of a white 2014 Audi Q5 attempted to evade a RCMP road block. As the driver approached the road block, headlights were turned off then a U-turn was conducted and the vehicle was driven away. An officer quickly returned to their police car, caught up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking to the driver it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol then subsequently failed two separate breathalyzer tests. As a result the vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

4. February 14

2000 block Gillies Bay Road

At approximately 9 pm, Texada Island RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance and shots fired at a residence. Reports suggested that following a dispute between a male and female, the male left the residence and returned a short time later with a shotgun, discharging at least two shots. Additional officers were requested from Powell River, however, prior to their arrival officers on scene encountered the male in possession of a shotgun. The male was arrested without further incident. A female located on scene was transported by BC Ambulance Service to Powell River General Hospital where she was treated for injuries to her face and later released. A second male on scene was transported by Air Ambulance to Vancouver with significant head injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition. None of the injuries were the result of guns shots but were the result of an assault. The arrested male remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Powell River Provincial Court today, Wednesday, February 18 on assault and weapons-related offences.
