1. Between December 25 and January 1

4400 block Marine Avenue

Two ashtray stands were stolen. The stands are described as approximately waist height, metal, with an ashtray on top and painted yellow. Both had “Brookfield” stickers on them and were valued at $100 each. 2. January 8

6900 block Courtenay Street

At approximately 2:10 am Powell River RCMP observed three people exit a public establishment, get into a 1992 blue Toyota Corolla and drive northbound on Marine Avenue, then without signalling turn onto Courtenay Street. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption. After providing and failing two breath samples it was determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days.

3. January 8

4700 block Joyce Avenue

At approximately 2:45 am a vehicle was stopped by police. While speaking to the driver a strong odour of liquor was noticed. The driver was requested to provide two breath samples and subsequently failed both. As a result the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

4. January 9

1400 block Highway 101

At approximately 4:30 am Powell River RCMP responded to the activation of a commercial alarm. Police found that a door had been pried open and a number of cigarette boxes scattered on the floor. Another responding police officer observed a suspicious vehicle travelling from Lund and conducted a vehicle stop and subsequently observed the missing cigarettes inside the vehicle. The driver and passenger were arrested and are now facing the Criminal Code charge of break and enter.

Police are still trying to find the owner of the Versace watch mentioned in the Weekend Shopper, January 9. It is now believed the watch was pawned on Vancouver Island.
