1. December - January
Saltery Bay
Within the last month approximately $20,000 to $30,000 worth of copper fitting and connectors were stolen from a hydro substation. The missing property would likely be of little value to anyone other than the value of the recycled metal and copper. 2. January 13
Marine Avenue
At approximately 1:30 pm Powell River RCMP received a phone call from a concerned citizen who observed a vehicle weaving in the road and nearly driving into the ditch. Police located and stopped the vehicle near Courtenay Street. The investigation determined the driver was impaired by drugs which resulted in the vehicle being impounded and the driver’s licence being seized as well as the driver facing the potential criminal code charge of driving while under the influence of drugs.
3. January 13
Bowness Avenue
At approximately 9:30 pm a black Toyota was observed crossing the centre line while travelling south. The vehicle was stopped by police near the corner at Barnet Street. After noticing the odour of alcohol on the driver and observing open alcohol in the vehicle the driver was requested to provide a breath sample. After providing and failing two breath samples the vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days.
4. January 18
Highway 101
At approximately 5:30 pm a Ford F150 was stopped for travelling more than 20 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit near the Italian Hall. The driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption and failed two breathalyzers. The driver’s licence was seized for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
