1. July 3

7800 block Valley Road

At approximately 1 am Powell River RCMP attended a report of an attempted arson. A resident reported that a male had thrown an unknown object through the window of his residence and was also having a fire in the backyard. The male was described as approximately 20 years of age, around five foot nine inches with a medium build wearing what is believed to be a dark blue long sleeved hooded sweatshirt. The resident confronted the male who left on foot.  It was confirmed that the damage to the window was caused by a rock and the male suspect had lit a black tar like substance on fire in the backyard of the residence. Police continue to investigate. 2. July 7

4700 block Joyce Avenue

At 3 pm Powell River RCMP received a complaint of a shoplifter. A female had left the store with a cooler bag containing various items she had stolen. Staff confronted the female outside the store who then dropped the items in the parking lot and ran. The female is described as having long dark hair, very tanned, thin, tattoos on her body (one of an anchor), and was driving a grey Volkswagon Jetta with Alberta plates. 3. July 9

4400 block Franklin Avenue

Powell River RCMP attended a business for a report of vandalism and theft from motor vehicles. The windows of two vehicles, which had been parked there, were broken. A red kayak was taken from one of the vehicles, as well as numerous items including knives, camping gear, a sleeping bag and a lap top. The stolen kayak is described as a red Bliss-stick, six feet in length. July 11

6900 block Duncan Street

At approximately 8:30 pm Powell River RCMP were called to a service yard for a break and enter in progress. Police attended and located a male hiding behind a parked vehicle within the secure compound. Police placed the 29-year-old male under arrest for break and enter. The male will be appeared in Powell River Law Courts this week.
