1. November 6
Thunder Bay Street
Police stopped a black Dodge Durango for being driven over double the posted speed limit. The driver, who had a young child in the vehicle, demonstrated signs of impairment but refused to provide a suitable breath sample. This resulted in the vehicle being impounded and driver facing the Criminal Code charge of failing to provide a breath sample.
2. November 6
4200 block Ontario Avenue
Approximately $35 of loose change was stolen from an unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway of a private residence.
3. November 6
Town Centre Mall
At approximately 1:30 pm a minor collision occurred in the parking lot. One of the vehicles stopped while the second vehicle drove away without making any effort to stop. With the help of a witness, who memorized the licence plate of the fleeing vehicle, Powell River RCMP were able to track down the driver and serve a violation ticket for failing to stop and failing to exchange particulars.
4. November 8
5000 block Joyce Avenue
A 1988 blue Honda Civic was stopped for speeding. The driver admitted consuming alcohol and provided two breath samples. Both resulted in fail readings. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
5. November 8
5600 block Maple Avenue
Someone poured a liquid, thought to be some type of paint thinner or acetone, on a parked vehicle which caused its paint to bubble and peel. To date no suspects have been identified.
