Forecaster calls for warmer spring

April drier on average

Meteorologists are forecasting a warmer spring and an even hotter summer.

Powell River weather station observer Vanessa Ede said that April’s temperatures were slightly above the seasonal norm. “We had frost the first few days of the month and then it started to warm up,” she said.

The maximum mean temperature was 13.1° Celsius, above the average of 12.8°, while the minimum mean was 4.0°, just a fraction of a degree below the average of 4.3°. The average temperature in Powell River was 8.6°, just up from the mean of 8.5°.

Climate averages from Environment Canada are based on accumulated data from 1981 to 2010.

Powell River received 185.2 hours of sunshine last month, slightly above the average of 178.1 hours, and 77.6 millimetres of precipitation was recorded, 5.6 millimetres below average.
