Eight local school parent advisory councils (PAC) have received funds from the provincial government’s community gaming grants.

“Learning, fun and growth also takes place outside the regular school curriculum, and parent advisory councils are key partners in keeping students and their families engaged and connected to those opportunities for enrichment,” stated Anne Kang, BC minister of municipal affairs, in a media release. “Community gaming grants to PACs help fund everything from robotics and photography clubs to playground equipment and chess competitions, strengthening students’ lives and building on their school experience.”

Henderson Elementary School’s PAC has received $2,260. James Thomson Elementary School’s PAC has received $5,040.

Association Parents École Côte du Soleil is the recipient of $2,000. Kelly Creek Community School PAC has been allocated $3,360.

Westview Elementary School PAC has received $6,840. Assumption School Parent Support Group was allocated $2,400.

Partners in Education PAC has been given $24,360. Brooks Secondary School has received $16,640.

The release stated that with assistance from community gaming grants, school PACs use funding to support a range of activities, such as field trips in BC, performances, movie nights, school dances and conferences, as well as buying sports equipment. District PACs can use funding for the cost of informational and promotional materials for parents, meeting room rentals, presenter fees and travel for meetings.
