BROUGHT INSIDE: A helicopter landed at Kelly Creek Community School’s field during recess for an emergency evacuation, so students had to be ushered back inside for the airlift.

Kelly Creek Community School students received a surprise on November 10 when a helicopter airlift occurred at the school.

According to correspondence to parents from school principal Jennifer Kennedy, there was an emergency helicopter landing on the field during big recess.

“Students were brought inside while this occurred to ensure the landing was safe for everyone,” stated Kennedy. “As Kelly Creek is a designated emergency evacuation site for the southern qathet region, the site use may be required with little warning. We will always ensure we have students kept safe should such use be required.”

Kristy Payne, director of communications for School District 47, said Kelly Creek Community School is a designated emergency evacuation site for the southern qathet region. She added that more specific or private/personal information isn’t the school district’s to share.

The Peak is trying to find out the circumstances behind the helicopter airlift.
