This morning, the upper and lower sections of Hemlock Street were closed to through traffic as work started on the remediation of the Hemlock loop.

The project will see the loop eliminated, creating two dead-end roads on upper and lower Hemlock Street instead. The work of tearing up the pavement, removal of street lights and construction of a 5.5 metre emergency access is expected to take about two weeks and cost $100,000.

Work must be completed by August 31, 2019.

In March of this year, after losing an appeal, City of Powell River was ordered to remove the section of road by the Agricultural Land Commission and restore it to its original state.
