At approximately 10:48 pm on August 1, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Highway 101 near Stark Road.

A white Volkswagen Golf had been located on its side in the ditch beside the highway. Police attended and located the vehicle, which was registered to an owner from Vancouver. Police noted that the vehicle was not on its side, but the right rear wheel was in the ditch. When police found the Golf, the owner had already left; there was no evidence to indicate they were injured as the vehicle was believed to have gone into the ditch at a low rate of speed.

Approximately 15 feet away, police located a blue Dodge Ram, which was backed into the same ditch. The registered owner, a resident of Victoria, was located sleeping in the back seat of the truck. Police spoke to the driver, who was intoxicated and confrontational.

The registered owner was arrested for being intoxicated in public, transported to cells until he was sober enough to care for himself and released without charge. Both vehicles were towed by City Motors as they were obstructing traffic.
