Powell River’s north boat harbour boat launch will be closed for the weekend due to construction.

According to a media release, the City of Powell River is in the process of widening the ramp. The three-day closure will start late on Thursday, February 6, and will reopen on Monday, February 10.

The media release states the contractor will be placing rip-rap and crushed gravel for the widened base of the new boat ramp. Due to the potential for silt in the water, in accordance with recommended mitigation measures from Fisheries and Oceans Canada and recommendations of the on-site environmental monitor, the silt-curtain on-site must remain closed at all times for the duration of this work.

The release further states that additionally, the new, precast concrete slabs for widening of the ramp will be moved to the top of the ramp on Thursday night, effectively blocking all access to vehicular traffic. The contractor is planning on having at least two of the new precast slabs installed over the course of Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, then will work to have the ramp available for public use by Monday morning.
