Over half a million dollars will be coming to Powell River from the provincial government in the form of community gaming grants for arts, culture and sport.
Recipients of the grants were announced Friday, July 18, and over 30 local organizations were given a total of $565,659 this year.
“The government of British Columbia provides significant support for programs that help keep communities strong in every region of the province,” said Coralee Oakes, minister of community, sport and cultural development. “Community gaming grants are a great example. Supported by stable, annual funding, these grants benefit thousands of local non-profit organizations throughout British Columbia.”
The provincial government approved $16.7 million in community gaming grants for arts and culture organizations and $29.1 million for sport during 2013-14, Oakes said.
