Peak welcomes intern reporter

Matthew Mason is an intern reporter under the Wired 4 Success program provided by inclusion Powell River and Model Community Project.

“This is a great opportunity to pass along work skills and we are enjoying having Matt with us until late January,” said Janet Southcott, managing editor at the Peak.

Wired 4 Success is a 16-week work-experience program. As well as working at the Peak, Mason also works in the Powell River Film Festival office. He was a student at Langara College where he studied for a bachelor of arts in creative writing and political studies. Since moving to Powell River in the summer he has joined the Wired program and is gathering skills, such as Food Safe, WHMIS and industrial first aid, which will be useful in his future career. At the Peak he is learning the techniques of interviewing, writing and photography.

“I will be in and around the community interacting with events, and often doing the weekly Speak to the Peak, so if you see me around town please feel free to say hi,” said Mason.
