Powell River RCMP helped arrest one of the Kootenay’s most wanted violent offenders.

Constable Tim Kenning explained that on Sunday, February 8, local police responded to a call of suspicious activity and ended up arresting 38-year-old David Grant Mack from Trail, BC.

Mack has 31 convictions on his criminal record, many related to extreme violence, police said.

Trail RCMP had been tipped off that Mack was possibly living in Powell River and sent the local detachment Mack’s photo and description.

After questioning Mack, who initially gave a false name to officers, one officer recognized him from his photo and arrested him, Kenning said.

Mack has been on the lam for the past 11 months after he was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. In June two additional counts of failing to comply with probation and were added and police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Last December Mack returned to Trail and allegedly committed another assault, stole a dog, threatened to poison the animal and ripped a hydro meter off a residence, said Trail police, adding that further charges of assault, uttering threats, theft and mischief have been added.

Kenning said local RCMP are also investigating Mack for possible fraud charges that occurred while he was holed up in Powell River.

Mack was in Powell River Provincial Court Wednesday, February 11.
