June 17
Powell River RCMP received a report of a social media fraud that is targeting potential vendors for the Powell River Blackberry Festival. The scammer is claiming to be the Blackberry Festival coordinator and is asking for vendor payment using the email address [email protected].

Powell River RCMP is advising that the blackberry festival coordinators will not ask for payment via social media, private message, gift cards or a direct transfer to an unofficial email address. All vendors will be sent an official invoice from Powell River Chamber of Commerce and the only legitimate email address for the festival is [email protected].

Police also advise everyone to be cautious when sending any payment or personal information and, if concerned, please call the local detachment.

Anyone with information about any crime is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477 or bccrimestoppers.com.
