Police Patrol: Powell River RCMP report

Incidents in the last week include health order violations, a phone scam and a failed driver sobriety test

Powell River RCMP reported 133 calls for service from April 14 to 20.

Powell River RCMP reported the following for April 14 to 20, 2021.

Total calls for service: 133
Thefts: 6
Assaults: 5
Impaired driving: 8
Mischief: 5
Break and enter: 2

April 16; Manson Avenue, 4200 block
At approximately 10 pm, police received a report of a loud party. RCMP attended and noted six people inside the residence in addition to the homeowner. Police spoke to the homeowner who confirmed the six people were there for a party and did not live there. The homeowner was issued a fine of $230 for promoting a noncompliant event under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act. All guests were asked to leave and they complied.

April 17; Redonda Avenue, 4500 block
At approximately 11:20 pm, police received a report of a rowdy party taking place in contravention of the current health order. RCMP attended and located 11 people in the residence from multiple residences. Police spoke to the 24-year-old homeowner, who became rude and belligerent. All guests departed and the homeowner was issued a fine of $230 for abusive or belligerent behaviour under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act.

April 17; Powell River
At approximately 7:20 pm, police received a report of a Telus phone scam. An unknown caller identified themselves as a Telus representative and informed the homeowner that they required a new digital cable box. The caller then asked for the homeowner’s social insurance number. The homeowner hung up and phoned Telus, who confirmed it was not a Telus representative that phoned. RCMP is reminding everyone to keep their personal and financial information safe at all times and not to give out any personal information over the phone to unsolicited callers.

April 17: Alberni Street, 7100 block
At approximately 5:50 pm, police received a report that two people who appeared to be highly impaired had walked through a parking lot and gotten into a vehicle. RCMP responded and located the vehicle driving through the parking lot. After speaking to the 39-year-old female driver, police detected signs of impairment by drug and conducted a standardized field sobriety test on the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and prohibited from driving.
