Total calls for service: 108
Thefts: 5
Impaired driving: 7
Break and enter: 2
Assaults: 3
Mental health: 6

March 30; Lois Lake

At 1:20 pm, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter to a cabin on Lois Lake. A vehicle identified by a witness as having been at the cabin earlier was located abandoned in a ditch less than a kilometre away. Items stolen from the cabin were located inside the vehicle.

Officers attended the campsite of the vehicle’s registered owner and arrested her and her boyfriend, who provided a false identity. Charges are being prepared against the vehicle owner for break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime.

Once correctly identified, the male was found to have several outstanding warrants out of Alberta for offences including possession of a forged credit card, resisting/obstructing a peace officer and breach of probation. These warrants were extended to BC, resulting in the male’s transportation to Alberta.

April 1; Barnet Street, 7000 block

While attending the premises on an unrelated matter, an RCMP officer observed a male known to police exit the FreshCo grocery store eating raw asparagus. The officer also observed the male’s pockets bulging with food items.

FreshCo staff members advised the male had not paid for the food items in his possession. The male was detained for theft and advised he is no longer welcome at the store.

April 5; Highway 101, 7400 block

While on patrol at approximately 12:30 am, Powell River RCMP located a suspicious vehicle in an empty lot. The vehicle had been involved in a collision, having gone off the road while travelling southbound on Highway 101.

A lone male with minor injuries was located near the vehicle. There was evidence of recent alcohol consumption, so the officer made a roadside breath demand and conducted two breath tests; both resulted in a fail.

The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was towed and impounded for the mandatory 30 days.

Queries on the driver revealed he was also under three driving prohibitions under the Motor Vehicle Act and so was served an appearance notice for court on June 28.
