November 24; Lang Bay Road
At approximately 12:25 pm, police were conducting patrols on Highway 101 at Lang Bay Road and observed a vehicle travelling northbound at a very high rate of speed. Radar indicated that the vehicle was travelling at 130 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometres per hour zone. Police initiated a traffic stop and the 19-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days under the Motor Vehicle Act.

November 26; Marine Avenue
At approximately 7:40 pm, police responded to a report of a male passed out face down on the sidewalk at the intersection of Marine Avenue and Duncan Street. The 37-year-old male was identified, assessed and cleared by EHS. Police spoke to the male and observed that he was staggering, had slurred speech, glazed eyes and smelled of alcohol. The male was arrested for public intoxication and held in Powell River RCMP detachment cells until sober and able to care for himself.

November 29; Marine Avenue
At approximately 3:48 pm, police and fire responded to a multiple vehicle accident on Marine Avenue on the hill just north of Willingdon Beach. A vehicle that was driving north up the hill had lost traction on the snowy, slippery road and slid backward. The collision involved seven vehicles and multiple other vehicles slid into ditches on both sides of the road. No injuries were sustained. Both City Motors and Larsen Towing attended and worked together to clear the roadway, allowing traffic to resume flow at 7:30 pm.

Powell River RCMP is reminding everyone that driving in winter conditions requires extra caution and alertness. During snow storms and cold weather the slippery roads and numerous steep hills in the community make vehicle control and stopping extremely difficult. Police recommend allowing yourself extra travel time to get to your destination, allow lots of space between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, slow down by braking softly and leave lots of space to safely stop. Additional precautions include travelling at a speed appropriate for conditions, ensuring your vehicle is clear of frost and snow and keeping an eye out for pedestrians and cyclists. Finally, ensure you have proper winter tires for the conditions.
