Police Patrol: Powell River RCMP report

Officers responded to 138 calls for service from October 25 to November 1, including a mischief report for graffiti at an elementary school

Powell River RCMP officers reported the following for October 25 to November 1, 2023.

Total calls for service: 138
Thefts: 4
Break and enter: 0
Impaired driving: 5
Assaults: 6
Mischief: 14
Mental health: 7

October 31; Abbotsford Street, 7300 block
At approximately 1 pm, police responded to a mischief complaint at Edgehill Elementary School. Sometime between October 27 and October 28, graffiti was spray-painted on the wall at the back of the gym.

October 30; Westview Avenue
At approximately 9:34 pm, a Powell River RCMP member was conducting patrols when a vehicle was observed failing to signal and swerving toward the centre line of the road. The vehicle was stopped and RCMP spoke to the driver, a 38-year-old male from Powell River. Police conducted records checks and found the driver was currently prohibited from driving and also showed signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition for impaired driving under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The driver was also given an appearance notice to attend court for driving while prohibited.

October 27; Highway 101, 8400 block
At approximately 8:45 pm, RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle collision. On arrival, police found a vehicle on its side in a ditch on the northbound side of the highway. Police spoke to the driver of the vehicle, who sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The driver advised he had been trying to defrost his windows with a paper towel, when he lost control of the vehicle and drove into the ditch. RCMP would like to remind drivers that with winter conditions coming, it is important to make sure your vehicle is functioning properly for the conditions and to be more cautious while driving on the roads.
