Powell River pays respect to two soldiers

Pouring rain on Saturday morning did not deter members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164 and other members of the public from attending Powell River’s cenotaph at Dwight Hall.

Pouring rain on Saturday morning did not deter members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164 and other members of the public from attending Powell River’s cenotaph at Dwight Hall.

They gathered to pay their respects to two soldiers who were killed this week. Corporal Nathan Cirillo was gunned down at the Canadian War Memorial in Ottawa on Wednesday and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent died after being run over with a vehicle in St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu on Monday. Photos of the two soldiers, a Canadian flag and flowers were placed on the cenotaph. Poppies were handed out to those attending. The famous verse from the poem For the Fallen, including the line “We will remember them,” was read out, before the singing of O Canada and a prayer.
