Impaired Driving (March 23)
On August 1, 2021, at 2:45 am, an RCMP officer on patrol stopped a blue 2005 Dodge Ram on Gordon Avenue in Powell River. The police officer noted that the driver of the vehicle, Heather Greenan, a 26-year-old Powell River resident, had an odor of liquor on her breath and red, bloodshot eyes. Police made a roadside breath demand, which resulted in a fail.
Greenan was arrested and brought back to the RCMP detachment for breath samples. She provided two samples of her breath; both sample results were 190mg/100ml of blood. Police forwarded a report to Crown Counsel recommending charges of driving a conveyance while impaired and drive while over 0.08 under the Criminal Code.
On March 23, 2022, Greenan appeared in Powell River Provincial Court and pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of drive without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act of British Columbia. She received a $750 fine, a six-month driving prohibition and a $133 victim surcharge.
Impaired Driving (March 23)
On August 22, 2021, at 4:29 pm, RCMP were called to a motor vehicle accident scene at the Lang Creek Bridge on Highway 101. On arrival, police observed a black Dodge Ram on its side on the highway blocking traffic. The pickup truck had collided with the bridge railing, causing extensive damage to the bridge and the pickup truck. Police identified the driver of the truck, Richard Perin. Based on observations of the driver, and a witness statement, police made a roadside breath demand. The result of the breath demand was a fail.
Police arrested Perin for impaired driving, and brought him to the detachment for breath samples. At the detachment, Perin provided two samples; one sample was 90mg/100ml of blood and the second sample was 100mg/100ml of blood. Police forwarded a report to Crown Counsel requesting charge approval for one count of impaired driving and one count of operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in one hundred milliliters of blood under the Criminal Code. Crown Counsel approved the charges.
On March 23, 2022, the 35-year-old appeared in Powell River Provincial Court and pleaded guilty to a lesser offence of driving without a driver’s licence under the Motor Vehicle Act of British Columbia and received a $200 fine, a $30 victim surcharge and a 90-day driving prohibition.
