PHOTO COMPETITION: Behind Emma Lake by Jan Uhlar was the photo that won Powell River Public Library’s 2023 photo competition, which had “woods” as the theme. This year's theme is called The Seasons. Participants are encouraged to showcase something beautiful and distinctive of the seasons in this region.

A photograph submitted by Jan Uhlar called Behind Emma Lake was last year's Powell River Public Library (PRPL) photo contest winner, which had a “woods” theme. This year's competition is called The Seasons.

"Every resident from the region, including qathet Regional District, City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation is entitled to submit one photo," said PRPL adult services coordinator Mark Merlino. "The theme this year is the seasons and the photo submitted should highlight something of the local seasons."

The photo should be sent via email in digital format by 11:59 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, to [email protected], with “Photo Competition” in the subject line.

Photographers are encouraged to showcase one of the four seasons, such as a typical winter view, a typical springtime view, a typical summer view or a typical autumn view.

Submission guidelines indicate that the main focus should be a well composed photo of any chosen season-related subject matter that is typical of this (qathet) region. Photos will be judged based solely on: showcasing something beautiful and distinctive of the seasons in this region; photo composition; details, such as, sharpness, focus, depth of field; photo resolution; and lighting.

Contest rules can be found at prpl.ca.
