Powell River RCMP investigate vehicle accident that caused fire

Just before midnight on Tuesday, November 7, Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department requested assistance with a single vehicle accident on Highway 101 at Black Point Road. Powell River RCMP attended and observed a vehicle in the ditch with significant damage.

The vehicle had hit and knocked over a BC Hydro pole, which had fallen into the tree line, igniting a small fire. No one was found inside the vehicle or in the immediate area and there was no indication that anyone had been injured.

The accident caused a power outage south of town. BC Hydro responded and was able to restore power at 3:30 pm the following day. The investigation is ongoing.
