Powell River RCMP release court results

Two people receive sentences as a result of police investigations

In the weekly media release from Powell River RCMP on September 21, police provided updates and results from the following cases dating back to 2020 and 2021:

September 16; Powell River Provincial Court
On January 24, 2021, RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Springbrook Road, which resulted in the seizure of several computers and cell phones determined to have child pornography on them. Police forwarded charges of possession of child pornography to crown counsel.

On September 16, 2022, Graham James Lackey was convicted of the charge of possessing child pornography contrary to section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada. As a result of the conviction, Lackey received a jail term of 660 days.

On March 10, 2020, police responded to a report of an unlicensed firearm which had been located in a rental room. RCMP attended the residence and seized the firearm, which was determined by police to be loaded.

As a result of the investigation, police forwarded charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless use of a firearm. On September 16, 2022, Marie Ferrier was convicted for unsafe storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code. As a result of the conviction, Ferrier received a 37-day jail sentence and a lifetime firearms prohibition.
