Powell River RCMP officers reported the following for January 18 to 24, 2024.

January 20; Manson Avenue
At approximately 1:32 am, police stopped a vehicle travelling south on Manson Avenue after it was seen swerving in its lane. RCMP spoke to the driver, a 45-year-old male from Powell River.

While speaking to the driver, police detected a strong odour of liquor coming from him, and the driver admitted to consuming liquor. A breath sample was taken using an approved screening device, and the male registered a warn.

The driver was issued a three-day driving prohibition under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, and the vehicle was towed as the insurance had also expired.

January 18; Manson Avenue, 4400 block
At approximately 8:28 am, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a theft from a parked vehicle. At approximately 1:30 am, the owner of the vehicle heard the car alarm go off, looked out and saw that the driver’s side door of the vehicle was open.

The owner went outside and heard what sounded like heavy breathing and thought a bear may be near the vehicle, then closed the door and went back inside the house.

When the vehicle was checked the next morning, it was determined that a key fob had been taken from inside the vehicle. A number of items including a backpack, fertilizer spreader, hatchet and saw were left inside the vehicle.

January 23; Joyce Avenue, 4400 block
At approximately 4:34 am, RCMP responded to a car fire in the parking lot of a business. Police attended and located a black Infiniti G35, which had sustained significant fire damage to the engine compartment. Evidence collected on scene indicated that the vehicle fire had been started on purpose.
