August 8
At approximately 11:30 pm, RCMP responded to a loud party complaint at Mowat Bay Park.

While on scene, the officer observed a Dodge Charger pull into a dirt parking lot out of view. He spoke to a group who he believed had been in the vehicle; all denied driving the vehicle. At least one person in the group appeared to be under the influence of alcohol so they were cautioned about impaired driving.

The officer departed the scene and parked up the road to monitor the traffic. 45 minutes later, he observed the Dodge Charger turning onto Cranberry Street. The vehicle was stopped and the driver displayed signs of impairment.

A roadside screening test was administered, which the driver failed. The 19-year-old male from Powell River was issued an immediate roadside prohibition, which includes having his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the car impounded for 30 days.

The driver could also face a mandatory rehabilitation program and installation of an ignition interlock system, all at his cost. Police file number is 2022-3743.
