SPRING MARKET: Artisans, gardeners and enthusiasts will gather at Springtime Garden Centre on April 8.

Popular qathet nursery, in the neighbourhood of Cranberry, Springtime Garden Centre, has been operating for more than 25 years.

The centre grows a majority of its own annual and perennial plants, and for people who visit, the atmosphere is like a zen-garden. Easter weekend, Springtime will host its third spring market.

“It’s becoming a huge event that grows with each season,” said garden centre manager Elizabeth Quigley. “We love to support local makers and celebrate the community.”

Visitors can expect to see, “specialty bakers and chocolatiers, as well as potters, basket makers, jewellery and glass artists, soap, candles and handcrafted totes, soap makers and home and garden décor creators.”

Along with local artists and crafters, there will also be vendors from Cortes and Texada islands; folks will also witness peacocks and chickens running around the premises. The market is also a time for gardeners to think about springtime planting.

“We offer people an opportunity to see the tried and true plants, as well as finding new and exciting varieties of their old favourites,” said Quigley. “We grow with love and care and [visitors] appreciate the quality of our plants and the extensive selection available.”

Powell River Orphaned Wildlife Society (PROWLS) will be at the market to fundraise for its volunteer-run nonprofit, which works to rehabilitate and release injured wild animals in the region.

Quigley also said she thinks first-time gardeners “are so much fun; they are overflowing with great ideas, dreams and enthusiasm. The best advice to a new gardener is to get your hands dirty, have fun and plant things that bring you joy.”

The market kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, April 8
