Approves accessibility and inclusion advisory committee funding; Approves Sunshine Coast Tourism service agreement; Provides direction for floatation device station on Texada Island

Committee endorsed
At the April 26 qathet Regional District board meeting, directors approved a joint accessibility and inclusion advisory committee funding agreement with City of Powell River and Powell River Public Library. The board also endorses the establishment of the joint committee, the purpose of which is to assist the city, library and regional district to identify, remove and prevent barriers experienced by persons with disabilities as per the legislated requirements for prescribed organizations under the Accessible British Columbia Act and regulation.

Approves agreement
Directors approved entering into a four-year service agreement with Sunshine Coast Tourism to provide $12,000 in annual funding from 2023 through to 2026 for destination marketing and tourism programs.

Installing PFDs
The board will direct staff to work with the Texada Island RCMP detachment and Marine Search and Rescue for the installation of a Kids Don’t Float personal floatation device station at Shelter Point Regional Park on Texada Island.

Sets meetings
The regional board will host its next two August board meetings off the mainland. The board voted to meet in Electoral Area E (Lasqueti Island) on August 23, 2023, and in Electoral Area D (Texada Island) in August 2024.
