Misses criteria

qathet Regional District’s board of directors has voted to refer its economic development strategy project to the next strategic planning session.

At the September 30 regional board meeting, the regional district received correspondence from the Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET), indicating a request for funding support was not approved. According to the letter, the ICET board of directors concluded the submission for funding as presented did not sufficiently meet the trust’s assessment criteria for approval under the economic development readiness program economic development strategy funding stream.

“Specifically, comprehensive economic development strategies of the type you are proposing must include detailed action-based implementation plans as well as the economic development and financial structure to implement a strategy of this scope,” the letter stated.

Request denied

The regional board carried a motion to respectfully deny the request from Myrtle Point Golf Club for a permissive tax exemption for the 2021 tax year. According to a report from Linda Greenan, manager of financial services, based on the application provided, the golf club does not meet the criteria for a permissive tax exemption as outlined in the regional district’s financial policy.

Supports exemption

The regional board carried a motion to approve a permissive tax exemption to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 on Texada Island for the property classed as recreation/non-profit for the 2021 year only.
