Trails/parks plan
At the August 23 regional board meeting, directors adopted the qathet Regional District parks and trails strategy dated July 2023, to guide the development, operation, management and acquisition of regional and community parks and trails over the next 10 years. According to a staff report, the strategy presents an overview of existing regional and community parks, and puts forward a vision, goals and actionable recommendations to guide future direction for regional and community parks services. The strategy is supported by community engagement and summarizes the community’s desires and aspirations, the staff report stated.

At the August 2 committee of the whole meeting, directors received a presentation from Megan Turnock, of consulting firm Lees and Associates, who outlined the findings of the strategy.

Supports subdivision
The regional board will advise the provincial ministry of transportation and infrastructure that it supports a two-lot subdivision application for properties at 10867 and 10869 Highway 101, subject to proof of water and septic servicing that meets provincial standards.

At the August 2 planning meeting, the committee recommended to the board that qRD advises the ministry of transportation and infrastructure that the regional district supports the proposed two-lot conventional subdivision application.

Strategic plan
Directors have adopted the 2023 to 2027 strategic plan. The document grew out of a two-day planning session on February 7 and 8 with award-winning local government consultant Tracey Lorenson. According to a staff report, the intent and purpose of developing a strategic plan in local government is to provide a clear road map for achieving long-term goals and objectives. The strategic plan serves as a guiding document that aligns the organization’s resources, efforts and decisions toward a shared vision, enabling effective decision-making and resource allocation, according to the staff report.

At the August 2 committee of the whole meeting, directors heard a presentation from consultant Tracey Lorenson.
