Approves amendment
At the qathet Regional District meeting on Thursday, August 22, the regional board approved a budget amendment to remove the $26,000 allocation of Community Works Funds from the 2018 Texada Health Centre capital upgrade and to use $26,000 from the Texada Health Centre statutory reserve to fund the project. The board also approved a budget amendment to allocated a further $26,000 of community works toward the 2014 Gillies Bay Community Hall upgrade capital project and to reduce the use of Texada Recreation Commission reserve funds toward the project by $26,000.

Continues wood stove exchange
Staff from qathet Regional District (qRD) will be directed to apply for a grant to the wood stove exchange program for 2020 and that the board budget $16,300 in the solid waste management service for advertising, education and awareness, and top-ups for the program. In 2019, qRD was successful in becoming part of the wood stove exchange program for the first time. The provincial program changes out old, smoky wood stoves for cleaner heating options, including heat pumps, gas or pellet stoves, and cleaner burning wood stoves. The program provides funding to promote the exchange and offer incentives to replace old wood stoves.

New meeting time
Regional board meetings will begin half an hour earlier than previously scheduled. The qathet Regional District board voted to amend the regularly scheduled board meeting time from 7 pm to 6:30 pm starting in September 2019.
