At the December 21 qathet Regional District (qRD) board meeting, regional directors approved the 2020 to 2023 strategic plan.

Plan priorities include climate change, economic enhancement, recreation and culture, safety stewardship, social planning and governance/management excellence, according to a media release from qRD. The release stated that the areas of focus for each priority weave together overarching themes, allowing the initiatives and projects prioritized by the regional district to be better aligned to the strategic plan and reported out to the public.

Updated annually, the strategic plan identifies and informs of qRD’s organizational vision, mission and values. The strategic plan highlights regional priorities and ensures directors, staff and stakeholders are working toward common goals that benefit the community they serve, the release stated.

“The priorities identified in the 2020 to 2023 strategic plan reflect the diversity of the qRD’s urban and rural areas,” stated regional district board chair Patrick Brabazon. “Thanks to the ingenuity and forward thinking of our elected officials and staff, the qRD continues to make great strides in local service provision, even during these unprecedented times.”

The release stated that the strategic plan helps provide key deliverables for each service the regional district provides. qRD administers a broad range of local and regional services, with the exception of roads and policing. The release stated the strategic plan helps to keep the regional district focused and committed to good governance and administration of these services.
