At a meeting last month, qathet Regional District's finance committee recommended that the board approve a permissive tax exemption to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232 on Texada Island for property classified as recreation/nonprofit, for the 2023 tax year.
According to a staff report, the tax exemption is estimated at $2,299 for the 2023 tax year. Texada Island Legion received permissive tax exemptions in 2021, 2019 and 2018.
The staff report stated that if approved, this tax burden would be shifted from the Texada Legion to other taxpayers in the region.
