Firearm use leads to charges

RCMP are recommending a Powell River resident be charged with four offences following an incident in the 5300 block of Manson Avenue.

Constable Tim Kenning of the local RCMP detachment said police responded to a complaint of gunshots in the area and found a man had unsuccessfully tried to put down a dog using a 22-calibre firearm. The dog died from its wounds and the RCMP seized the individual’s firearm.

“RCMP are recommending the following charges,” Kenning said. “Careless use of a firearm, unauthorized use of a firearm, cruelty to animals and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.”

The recommendation to Crown Counsel to lay charges against the Powell River resident is “in order to hold the culprit accountable for his actions,” Kenning said.
