Tla’amin vote
Members of Tla’amin (Sliammon) First Nation will head to the polls on Saturday, September 15, to vote for chief and council.
Incumbent Chief Clint Williams is being contested by two others for the position, John Steven Hackett and Vernon Pielle. If Williams is successful he will enter his third term. In 2010 he won with 177 votes over Pielle’s 116.
Eight of the current nine incumbents will run again for council office. Gloria Francis, Dillon (Tokwonon) Johnson, David (Bud) Louie, Eugene Louie, Walter Paul, Bruce Point, Denise Smith and Williams have entered into the race with 23 other candidates.
They are Adeline August, Kevin Blaney, Leonard James Bob, Sherry Bullock (Titian), Marlane Christensen, Eileen Francis, Theodore Andrew Francis, Verna Francis, Steven Anthony Galligos, Anthony George (Williams), Hackett, Alexander Hugenschmidt, Brandon Louie, Larry Louie, Gary C. Mitchell, Dawna Pallen, Brandon Peters, Vernon Pielle, Margaret Rose Rossi, Kristi Marie Thiele, Amy Stephanie Timothy, Bradley Titian and Steven Wilson.
Voting will take place from 9 am to 8 pm at Sliammon Salish Centre.
Ferry repairs
Service to and from Little River will be compromised today, Wednesday, August 15 and tomorrow, Thursday, August 16 to accommodate repairs to the bow thruster engine of the Queen of Burnaby. The 7:15 pm sailing from Little River and 8:45 pm sailing from Westview on Wednesday will be cancelled, as will the 6:30 am from Little River and 8:10 am from Westview on Thursday. Service will resume with the 10:10 am
